West Virginia Wesleyan College invites applications for a full-time Assistant Director of Institutional Research. The Assistant Director supports the collection, organization, analysis, and communication of institutional data for planning, accreditation, assessment, and strategic initiatives. The successful candidate will report to the Director and work closely with campus partners across Academic Affairs, Enrollment Management, Student Affairs, and Finance.

Key responsibilities

  • Assist with recurring internal reports, including enrollment and retention snapshots, course and credit hour summaries, and end-of-term reporting.
  • Support preparation and submission of external reports and surveys (e.g., IPEDS, state reporting, accreditor requests, college guidebook surveys).
  • Provide data and reporting support to academic and administrative units for assessment, program review, and planning.
  • Help maintain and update institutional dashboards and data tools, including documentation of data definitions and basic data visualizations.
  • Conduct ad hoc queries and descriptive analyses to inform operational and student success initiatives.
  • Assist with the design, administration, and analysis of campus surveys (students, alumni, faculty, staff) and prepare concise summaries of results.
  • Contribute to data quality checks, documentation, and data governance conversations.

Qualifications

Required

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field (e.g., higher education, social sciences, business, mathematics, statistics, data analytics, or related discipline).
  • Experience working with data in a professional, internship, graduate assistantship, or substantial project context.
  • Proficiency with spreadsheets (Excel or Google Sheets) for data cleaning, basic analysis, and visualization (e.g., charts, pivot tables).
  • Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines.
  • Clear written and oral communication skills, including the ability to explain data findings to non-technical audiences.
  • Demonstrated discretion and professionalism in handling sensitive or confidential information.

Preferred

  • Experience working with a student information system or other administrative databases in higher education.
  • Familiarity with basic query or reporting tools (e.g., SQL, MS Access, Argos, Tableau, Power BI, or similar).
  • Exposure to institutional research, assessment, accreditation, or program evaluation in a college/university setting.
