BUCKHANNON, West Virginia — West Virginia Wesleyan College’s Office of Religious and Spiritual Life will host Kent Chevalier, chaplain for the Pittsburgh Steelers and author of “Do It Afraid” on Sept. 25 at 7 p.m. in Wesley Chapel. 

Born and raised in the Pittsburgh region, Chevalier dedicated his life to God the summer prior to college. In 2017, at the invitation of former Steelers coach Mike Tomlin, Chevalier joined the staff of Athletes in Action, a sports ministry, where he became a chaplain for the Pittsburgh Steelers. He holds a bachelor’s degree in student ministry from Geneva College and a Master’s in Theological Studies from Trinity Evangelical Divinity School. Chevalier has spent 30 years serving in various ministries. 

In “Do It Afraid,” Chevalier shares his testimony and lessons learned along the way. On Sept. 25, Chevalier will speak on the topic “Built to Last: What is Your Foundation?” 

According to Rev. Jonathan Acord, VP of Religious & Spiritual Life and Dean of the Chapel,  this message is relevant because, “We live in a world where identity is often shaped by athletic achievement, academic success, professional ambitions, and public recognition.  So, we want students and community members to reflect on the importance of developing an identity rooted in something more enduring than a sport, career, grade point average, or professional accomplishment.”
