BUCKHANNON, West Virginia — The West Virginia Wesleyan College Department of Music is bringing together alumni, students and faculty to celebrate the teaching and upcoming retirement of Dr. Melody Meadows M’85. Meadows, professor of piano and organ, has taught at WVWC for over 30 years guiding hundreds of students.

On Saturday, April 18, alumni, students and faculty will perform a recital in Loar Auditorium at 3 p.m. featuring students Aubree Bozic and Amelia Hughes , alumns Lauren (Smith) Hull and Savannah (Gwinn) Wright, faculty/alumni Jessica Scott and Brett Miller , and music faculty Dr. Dan Hughes.

On Sunday, April 19, at 5:30 p.m. in Wesley Chapel, nearly 40 alumni singers are joining WVWC’s Concert Chorale and Concentus Vocum, along with several alumni pianists: Scott, Miller, Hull, and Robin Bohn.

The program will feature selections from Joseph Byrd’s To Elinor Wylie and Johannes Brahms’ Liebeslieder Walzer, Opus 52.

“Byrd’s work sets poems by Edna Saint Vincent Millay, writing about her esteemed colleague Elinor Wylie, two women ahead of their time,” Hughes said.  “Brahms set his waltzes for four-hands piano, and both works feature stunning composition for the piano and singers.

Receptions will follow both events in Loar.
