BUCKHANNON, West Virginia — West Virginia Wesleyan College proudly announces the launch of the Academic Coaching and Comprehensive Educational Support Services through its nationally recognized The Learning Center and Office of Accessibility Services, a new affordable, fee-based service designed to enhance academic support and empower students to achieve their full potential.
The Academic Coaching and Comprehensive Educational Support Services (ACCESS) program is available for all students – not just those already using The Learning Center resources – and aims to provide high-impact individualized academic support for college students through professional tutoring in reading skills, study strategies, time management and academic writing/editing.
“The ACCESS Program reflects our ongoing commitment to meeting students where they are and helping them thrive,” Anita Dib, director of The Learning Center and Accessibility Services. “We recognize that every student learns differently, and this program ensures they have the tools, strategies, and support needed for success both inside and outside the classroom.”
ACCESS provides weekly individual sessions with an academic coach, access to a reading specialist, special emphasis on time management, motivation, notetaking and planning, assistance with editing and organizing papers and sessions on test-taking strategies and memory techniques.
Founded in 1963 by Phyllis Coston, The Learning Center has long been a cornerstone of academic support at WVWC, offering tutoring, writing assistance, and study resources. The Learning Center and Accessibility is ranked in the top 20 schools according to McMillan’s list of Colleges with Learning Disability Programs. It is also listed in Peterson’s 20 Great Colleges for Students with Learning Disabilities.
In addition, its Walk-in Tutoring program has been recognized as a “long-standing and polished program” by the College Reading and Learning Association’s International Tutor Program.
